Dionne Murray was a tremendous nurse, wife, mother, friend, coworker and person. The 2 Lenfest surgical nursing unit was a witness to this. We were privy to the powerful, profound effect that Dionne Murray had on all her coworkers at Abington Hospital, and each person that was blessed with meeting her. After her initial interview many years ago, we knew immediately that she belonged with us. We remember the light and energy that emanated from her sweet face. Dionne became the calming angel that masqueraded as one of us on 2 Lenfest. The staff will never forget how she made us feel. She took great care of her patients and treated them in a way we imagined she would treat her family if they were sick.
Dionne was on the path to get her master's degree in nursing, set to graduate in May 2020 from DeSales University. Her family even called her, "a career student." Dionne's life was taken from us too soon in February 2019, when she lost her second battle with cancer. 2 Lenfest would like to honor her memory by giving other's the opportunity to continue their education in nursing. The beneficiary would receive a nursing scholarship, offered yearly to anyone with a passion for taking care of others . We hope by creating a scholarship fund, those who were not honored to know her, will feel her strive for greatness to better themselves and in turn, keep the memory of Dionne alive forever.
When talking to Dionne, she would often say, "C'mon sis, we got to do better..." PLEASE help us help those who want to better themselves, and contribute to the Dionne Murray Angel of Hope Memorial Scholarship.
If you still are not sold on contributing to this great fund, below are some quotes said about Dionne....
"She taught us the power of taking the high road … to keep calm and carry on--to not take yourself too seriously … and making sure to laugh along the way."
"Dionne’s legacy will live forever on 2 Lenfest. My hope is that her voice will resonate in our hearts and guide the way we respond to each other when faced with adversity. "
“Dionne made me think outside my comfort zone … in a joyful way. She brought a new perspective to my life.”
“She was always struggling with her juice cleanses. But she always promoted healthy choices.”
“She was a mentor, a teacher.”
"She handled tough situations with a sense of class and grace."
“Dionne was hard-working, fun, and full of laughter.”
“She was my work mom. She kept me in check, and she always sensed when trouble was about to erupt. She would do her famous triple head tilt when she felt like I was about to go over the edge …”
“I remember … she would just purse her lips, shake her head side to side, and just smile. I think she knew that the storm would eventually pass, and we believed her.”
“She was the calm … before, during, and after the storm.”
At Abington – Jefferson Health, we support nursing excellence by ensuring our nurses have access to the latest education and professional development opportunities available.
Nurses are often called the heart and soul of medicine. Every day, nurses in our hospitals across the Delaware Valley go above and beyond their duties to transform lives. The Heart of Healthcare—Jefferson Nursing Fund at Abington is an opportunity to give back to the nurses who have given so much to families in the communities we serve.
Jefferson has a near 130-year legacy of educating and training nurses for successful careers. We know that giving nurses an opportunity to grow through professional conferences, and traditional and nontraditional learning experiences, ultimately translates to better care for you and your family.
