What can I say, I love a challenge…
On July 1-11, 2024, I will be climbing to the highest peak on the African continent and the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro, with 34 other Christian Missionary Fellowship International (CMFI) supporters.
For several years, I have followed along virtually as a close family friend made this trek, and now I am joining his team as a fellow climber.
Our mission is in this climb is to generate financial support for Missions of Hope International (MOHI).
Although I am new to this organization, I am not new to the challenges of leaving my comfort zone in order to make an impact on the world beyond my own front door.
As some of you know, I have made several trips to Word of Life Hungary as part of a Sports Ministry.
Now I am partnering with MOHI in a mission to provide not only sports facilities for children in Nairobi, Kenya, but also a safeenvironment in which to learn and be ministered to about the gospel.
Over the last six years, fundraising efforts have made it possible to build two soccer fields in Baba Dogo. Located in the Mathare Valley – one of the largest slums in the world – these turf soccer fields were labelled “impossible” by some. But through hard work and God’s provision, these fields are now a reality.
Over 11,000 children have access to the fields and MOHI Sports Ministry curriculum every week. Currently there are 11 schools operated by MOHI that provide access to these facilities.
With your support, I hope to expand the reach of this ministry.
My goal is to raise $5,000 to benefit the children of Mission of Hope by supporting the growing Sports Ministry Program at the 30+ schools they operate.
Funds will be used for programming/curriculum, equipment, and to build MORE multi-purpose sports fields at MOHI schools.
More than 30,000 children attend Misson of Hope International's 34 schools throughout Kenya.
The MOHI Sports Ministry helps these children learn leadership and problem-solving skills, while inspiring good character, self-esteem, and confidence.
Access to a safe and affordable sports community can often be a vital pathway to opening the hearts and minds of students to the message of the gospel. Trained coaches teach the skills of soccer and other activities, but also provide guidance to each child to develop their faith in Jesus Christ.
In order to support the MOHI Sports Ministry, please consider donating to my trip.
Help spread Jesus’ message of love, hope, and acceptance through Sports and so much more. Thank you!
MOHI is a Kenyan-led ministry and long-time CMF partner. More than 30,000 children attend its 34 schools throughout Kenya. To learn more about the history and growth of MOHI click here.
Imagine the rush of adrenaline when rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding coastal scrubland to a height of 19,341 feet at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. On July 1 to 11, 2024, 35 climbers will take in the majestic views on one of the world’s most accessible high summits, requiring no technical climbing experience with little more than trekking poles, proper clothing, and determination.
But this trip is more than just making memories or reaching a personal goal. By climbing Kilimanjaro with Christian Missionary Fellowship International (CMFI), climbers will be stepping boldly to transform lives through Christ’s love. Each adventurer will inspire others to get involved through prayer and financial support of God’s work through CMFI’s partner ministry in Kenya, Missions of Hope International (MOHI).
Our goal is to raise $200,000 from our 35-member climbing crew. These funds will benefit MOHI’s growing Sports Ministry, providing for sports programming, equipment, and to build multipurpose sports fields at MOHI schools. With over 30,000 children attending MOHI’s 34 schools throughout Kenya, CMFI dreams of building another multi-purpose soccer field to help expand the MOHI Sports Ministry outreach for more children to experience this great opportunity. MOHI students receive excellent education in their schools, but this ministry provides opportunities for a more well-rounded experience, with additional resources to help develop the children’s bodies and characters as well as their minds.
